Two weeks of our Olivia

Our little Olivia is two weeks old! The past two weeks have gone by faster than my 21+ hours of labor.  I’ll write about that when I find the time and hopefully before I forget too many details.  These past weeks have been filled with love and laughter and tears and at times exhaustion (10:30 has never felt so late). Love from the wonderful snuggles and coos, laughter over her milk coma grins, tears over her tears, and sweet exhaustion from the love, laughter and tears.
Just 5 hours old =)
Olivia’s arrival: Olivia joined our family on October 22, at 5:10 PM. Weighing in at 6lb 12oz and measuring 20 ½ inches long.  She has a head full of brown fuzzy hair. She has been such a blessing and a joy already.

Sleep: Overall we have been a well-rested family.  The first couple of nights we were home I woke her up every three hours to eat. More for my sake than hers =) After that during the night I have been letting her wake up on her own to eat.  A majority of our nights have consisted of a 5 hour stretch and then a 3 or 4 hour stretch.  We had a couple of nights of a 6 hour stretch and then a three hour stretch which was fantastic. Even though it is tiring to get up to feed her I truly cherish the time where the house is quiet and it’s just us spending time together.  She is so precious to me and I look forward to spending time with her!

Eating: Olivia has been a breastfeeding rock star since day one.  Right away the nurses commented on what a good latch she had.  It has been getting easier for me as the days go by but it was definitely awkward at first and it seemed as though I needed four hands to get everything situated =)

Diapers: Newborn.

Clothes: Newborn fit really well. Cute onsies and pants are her typical outfit during the day. Her fuzzy zip up pajamas are my favorite for bedtime.

Firsts: We have been enjoying her smiles. The first one was after being fed. She was in her milk coma state and gave us some pretty great squinty eyed smiles that showed off the dimples Andy passed on to her.  We’ve also had our first blow out’s. Three total now and magically they have all been when Andy is away.  I used to always say that I would be the mom that would just throw away the clothes because it would gross me out too much to wash the poop out but I can honestly say that not an outfit has been tossed and I’ve hand washed the poop out of her clothes. I am a mom! =)  We have been out to eat a few times since Olivia joined the family and she has slept through it all.  We also went to church this past Sunday and she slept through that as well. It was so wonderful to worship as a family and to just be in church together.  My deepest longing for her is that she would fall in Love with Jesus and lead a life following and serving him.
On our way to church =) Notice my boots =) I couldn't wear them before because my calves and feet were so swollen.  Now they fit perfectly!
Olivia’s likes and dislikes: At first bath time was a dislike but now she only fusses when we take her out of the sink.  Diaper changes are constantly back and forth on the like or dislike scale.  Olivia likes to be free and she likes her arms out when she is swaddled.  She likes going for walks in her stroller.  We’ve done 6 miles together.

Mom and Dad Love:  Dad Loves lying on the couch with Olivia on his chest.  He also loves finding new ways to entertain her like playing his guitar for her or singing various songs to her.  I Love dancing with her in the living room and snuggling her after she is full and tired.

Things I’ve been experiencing this week:  Pure happiness because of our Olivia and because of how well things really are going.  The transition from two to three has been easier than I anticipated and Andy and I have seemed to fall into our roles pretty easily.  It is so wonderful to see his Love for his daughter and the bond that they have formed.
I am happy to say that I think almost all of my water weight is gone “yippee!” 30lb down with 15 to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight.  Who’s legs are these?!?! I forgot what it was like to have ankles!
What I have been struggling with is feeling guilty. Feeling guilty when I want to hold her but have so much to get done and then feeling guilty for wanting to lay her down because I want to get things done.  Obviously there is a balance and I have to try to enjoy my time with her and also enjoy my time doing the things I do for me and our home.

What I'm looking forward to: The journey ahead as we continue life as a family of three.

Week 41

Week 41
How far along: 41 Weeks

Weeks to due date: One week overdue

Total weight gain: 38 pounds

Maternity clothes: I’m getting to enjoy them a little longer =)

Sleep:  Depends on the night but overall has been much better the past couple of weeks.  I find myself waking up earlier each morning though. Mornings are my favorite so that just means more time to enjoy the stillness.

Best moment this week:  We aren’t completely done with all of our remodel but for the most part everything is in working condition.  We are done painting and everything has been separated between the new guest room and the baby’s room.  The baby’s room isn’t all set up yet but that’s okay because he or she will be in our room for a little while anyway and our room has been ready for this baby for weeks now =)

What I miss: Being able to wear my shoes.  I seriously only have a few options now that my feet are so swollen all the time. They get worse throughout the day but they start out pretty puffy.

Movement: Yeppers =)

Food cravings: Nothing stands out.

Making me queasy:  I’ve kind of been in a general state of queasiness. I’m not sure if it’s anything specific.  My midwife said that in the last couple of weeks of pregnancy some of those hormones that make one queasy in the beginning of pregnancy come back.

Starting to show:  I’m pregnant and I know it

Gender:  Oh how I can’t wait to know!!! Here are a couple of theories. We are having a girl and she is taking her sweet time to get ready.  We are having a boy and he can’t find his way out and won’t ask for directions =)

Happy or moody:  Both! This has been a week of emotions for me.  I am lucky my husband is as understanding as he is.

Things I've been experiencing this week:  We had two appointments this week.  They did about 30 min of fetal and uterine monitoring at both appointments which means we were able to listen to our sweet baby’s heartbeat for over an hour this week.  I also learned at my second appointment that the pressure I have thought was the baby pressing hard was actually Braxton hick’s contractions.  Who knew?
This week I tried my hand at a prenatal parenting demonstration…. Yes I think I may have made that up… What I did was bake homemade buns. So I demonstrated to our child that you make the dough, let it rise, roll it into buns, place them in the oven to bake….. AND THEN TAKE THEM OUT… Yeah, the kid didn’t get it…. I’ll have to come up with some other prenatal parenting demonstrations and see if they work =)
Also, I thought I should give a quick explanation on our doctoring situation. I’ve had a few people ask questions so I thought I would clarify.  We are doctoring with a certified nurse midwife at a hospital in Fargo.  That way we could have the midwife experience in the setting of a hospital. Kind of the best of both worlds.  We have really enjoyed the experience and the great personal care we have received and I am so glad we went this route.

What I am looking forward to:  Having this child!

Size of baby:  There wasn’t a fruit update this week but my midwife says that the baby is in the 7 ½ to 8 pound range.

Week 40

Week 40

How far along: 40 Weeks

Weeks to due date: 0… baby should be here any day now =)

Total weight gain: 38 pounds

Maternity clothes: All things maternity

Sleep:  Not too bad actually. My cold is better now! Although rolling from one side to the other presents its challenges =)

Best moment this week:  Date night with the hubby =)

What I miss: Not running into things with my belly.  At least it’s for a good reason.

Movement: I am really cherishing these last few days of being able to feel the baby move in this way =)

Food cravings: Maybe pizza =) We’ve had it quite a bit this week.

Making me queasy: Everything this week.  I puked at the sight of a moldy bun. Almost lost my supper when Andy farted in the vehicle.   And have gagged at many other things.

Starting to show:  Oh yeah baby

Gender:  We will know when our little one arrives =)

Happy or moody:  Happy and not too uncomfortable.

Things I've been experiencing this week:  A huge sense of appreciation for the pregnancy I’ve had! I am so thankful that we’ve made it to 40 weeks and our baby is doing well and overall I have felt so good this whole time.

What I am looking forward to:  Meeting our baby.

Size of baby:  A Jackfruit.  That kind of sounds made up.

Week 39

39 Weeks

How far along: 39 Weeks

Weeks to due date: 1

Total weight gain: 37 pounds

Maternity clothes: Maternity Jeans, tops, and cardigans.

Sleep:  My cold has gotten a little better making it easier to sleep at night.  I get up about 3 or 4 times to go to the bathroom though so that keeps me up.  Also, my arms have started falling asleep again so I wake up to no feeling in both hands at the same time.

Best moment this week:  I had great chats with my Grandma Mary and my Dad on the phone today.  I think the best thing was when my Dad said that he hopes that I pop soon.  Exact words!  I am so thankful for my family and the support and laughter they bring.  I am truly blessed!
Another great moment this week was launching a Facebook page called B. Cozy.  I Love to crochet and I am excited to be posting my creations and maybe getting some business from it.

What I miss: I can’t really think of anything besides what I’ve already talked about in previous posts.

Movement: So much.  I think I am going to miss it.

Food cravings: None

Making me queasy: Nothing

Starting to show:  Rub the Buddha

Gender:  We will know when our little one arrives =) Any last guesses before baby comes?

Happy or moody: Happy but this anticipation that is building is a little annoying.  I want the baby to stay as long as he or she likes but I seriously just want to birth the darn little thing so that we can play.
 p.s. I know there’s a lot more to parenting than that ;)

Things I've been experiencing this week:  Well, last night I actually thought that labor was starting.  I had bad back pain yesterday and then at 3:30 this morning had really bad back pain that moved to my abdomen and lasted for about a minute.  It was the same sudden pain that I had a few weeks ago that made me puke.  My midwife said that that was a contraction caused by the baby lying on a nerve so when I felt that again I thought it might actually be labor starting.  So I got out of bed, went to the bathroom, walked around a little, had a glass of water, and then….. nothing else happened.  I am glad that babies come when they want to but not knowing for sure what labor will feel like when it starts is nerve racking.  I’ve read how it might feel when it starts but then I also read that everyone is different and every labor is different so the common things that women feel might not apply. Then other things you read tell you that you will most likely just know from instinct but that you might be incorrect but that’s okay.  Anybody else confused?

What I am looking forward to:  I am looking forward to the joys and trials of becoming a parent.  I am so excited to meet this little one and for my whole world to be rocked by all of the excitement and exhaustion.  I am so excited to hold our baby in my arms and to rub his or her sweet little face.  I am looking forward to my heart hurting because of the overwhelming happiness we will feel but also from the the fears and anxiety's we will surely face.  I am so thankful that we have our heavenly father to turn to and learn from.

Size of baby:  A watermelon
